Financial Aid

The Financial Aid Office administers scholarships, short-term loans and emergency aid to assist you as you prepare for the ministry. Our office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You may reach us by:

Scholarships are awarded annually to qualifying students and are subject to conditions established by donors and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

SBTS Scholarships

Students may apply for one of the following scholarships:

Ph.D. Students should contact the Doctoral Studies office for information on the Resident Doctoral Studies Grant. Other doctoral programs are not eligible for a SBTS scholarship or grant.

How do I Apply for an SBTS Scholarship:

  1. Review Guidelines for Scholarships (PDF) to verify you are eligible to receive financial assistance.
  2. Complete the admissions process and be accepted into a degree program before the financial aid deadlines below.
  3. Once you are accepted, you will receive a personalized SBTS e-campus ID and password. At this time you are eligible to apply for financial aid using the SBTS Online Financial Aid Application.
  4. Complete all parts of the SBTS Application for Scholarship online and submit three thank you letters to the financial aid office (see guidelines for scholarships above for additional information on the thank you letters) by the financial aid deadline:
    • Continuing Students – April 16 of each year
    • Students entering Fall semester – July 15 of each year (prior to entering)
    • Students entering Spring semester – Dec. 1 of each year (prior to entering)

Other Scholarship Opportunities:
Students may apply for assistance from other sources, including the scholarship websites listed below. However, Southern Seminary and Boyce College do not endorse any of these searches or the scholarships found on their websites. Federally funded grants and loans are not accepted by Southern Seminary or Boyce College. Any outside scholarship that requires participation with Title IV funding will not be accepted. Please note: If you receive funding from an outside source, please provide financial aid with a copy of your award letter, e-mail Financial Aid or fax 502-897-4031.

Educational Loan Opportunities:

Southern Seminary does not participate in any federal or state student aid programs involving loans or grants. The following company offers a loan that is not federally funded. When applying for this loan, the amount requested must be certified by financial aid. Please e-mail Financial Aid with a breakdown on the amount requested: tuition, books, dorm (meal card may be included) or rent by term.

Important note: All loan paperwork must be completed by the following deadlines to insure receipt of funds by tuition payment due date.
