The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary’s quarterly magazine recently received three awards from the Evangelical Press Association at its 2015 annual convention in Denver, Colorado, April 8-10.
“The Communications team is committed to serving readers of the Southern Seminary Magazine with excellence,” said Steve Watters, vice president for communications at the seminary. “So we’re grateful for this thoughtful review and recognition from the Evangelical Press Association.”
Southern Seminary Magazine’s Summer 2014 issue, “From Death to Life: The Imperative of Church Revitalization,” received for its cover illustration second place in Higher Goals in Christian Journalism for “Original Art: Digital/Mixed Media.” The Spring 2014 issue, “Theology in the Life of the Church,” came in third place in Higher Goals in Christian Journalism for “Original: Traditional Art.” Overall, the magazine received an Award of Merit in the organizational category.
“The artful and engaging design and the clever packaging of stories using bulleted service info and infographics make this a stunning publication that invites me to linger on each page,” commented the judge for the Award of Merit.
The Award of Merit named Communications team members Steve Watters, James A. Smith Sr., Aaron Hanbury, S. Craig Sanders, Eric Jimenez, and Andrea Stember. Jimenez and Stember were recognized for their design of the Summer 2014 issue cover and Spring 2014 issue cover and article illustration, respectively.
According to its website, the EPA exists “to strengthen evangelical periodicals through inspiration, instruction, and networking.” The EPA also holds an annual conference for members of the association, and awards publications for originality and excellence.
