Boyce College recently appointed two-time University of Oxford graduate Jonathan Arnold as assistant professor of Christian theology and church history. Arnold earned two graduate degrees from Oxford, which is in the United Kingdom, including his Doctorate of Philosophy (D.Phil.) in Ecclesiastical History.

“Jonathan Arnold is a fine scholar and a timely addition to the faculty of Boyce College and Southern Seminary,” said Southern Seminary President R. Albert Mohler Jr. “This is great news for the world of theological education and Christian scholarship. I look forward to Dr. Arnold taking his place in the great line of learning and teaching that the Southern Seminary faculty represents. His addition also underscores the central importance of theology to a Christian worldview education. He is ready to teach a new generation of Christians from the full wealth of biblical conviction.”

Arnold will join the Boyce faculty Aug. 1 from Northland International University in Dunbar, Wisconsin, where he was professor of theological studies and vice president of student services. Before Northland, Arnold served as senior pastor of Skiff Lake Bible Church in Jackson, Michigan, for five years. He will be joined at Southern Seminary by his wife, Lindsay, and their four children.

“Our desire is to build a world-class faculty who can engage with contemporary intellectual challenges to the gospel and teach undergraduate students to think biblically about all of life,” said Boyce College Dean Dan DeWitt. “Our faculty members are academically rigorous, passionate about Jesus, and committed to equipping the saints for the work of the ministry. It brings me great delight to know that Dr. Jonathan Arnold represents all three of these qualities and I trust he will transfer this passion to the students he teaches and mentors on our campus.”

In addition to his education at Oxford, Arnold earned a Th.M. in Systematic Theology and Pastoral Leadership at Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas.

Arnold has contributed to numerous books, including Baptists and the World: Renewing the Vision and a forthcoming monograph he co-authored, English Baptists of the Seventeenth Century. Much of his research, including his dissertation, has focused on the theology of 17th-century Baptist pastor Benjamin Keach.

“I am truly humbled and excited by the opportunity to join the faculty of Boyce College as we seek to prepare the next generation of the church to engage the culture with a theologically rich, biblically sound faith,” Arnold said.

“To be able to carry out the calling on my life alongside a world-class and, more importantly, godly faculty is truly a privilege. My family and I are excited to continue our ministry with the Boyce College community.”
