SBTS leaders to participate in several events during SBC annual meeting in St. Louis

The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary will be well represented at the 2016 Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting and other gatherings in St. Louis, Missouri, June 14-15.

During the meeting, Southern Seminary President R. Albert Mohler Jr., will participate in the following events:

  • The Baptist21 panel on denominational issues Tuesday at 11:45 a.m., which also includes former SBTS professors Danny Akin, president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Russell Moore, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission. IMB President David Platt, Texas pastor Matt Chandler, and SBC presidential nominee J.D. Greear will also participate.
  • The 9Marks at 9 panel, “The State of the SBC,” Tuesday at 9 p.m., which also includes Akin, SBTS alumnus and 9Marks President Mark Dever, Platt, and Florida pastor H.B. Charles Jr.
  • A joint session with the five other SBC seminaries during the Wednesday session at 9:36 a.m., in which Mohler is slated as the sixth president to present his report to the messengers.
  • The seminary’s annual alumni luncheon Wednesday at noon in America’s Center, Ballroom 221. Mohler will give a report highlighting developments and events in the previous academic year, and attendees will receive a copy of “The President’s Report.” Cost is $25 per person.

Adam W. Greenway, dean of the Billy Graham School of Missions, Evangelism and Minstry, will serve as assistant parliamentarian.

Also during the meeting, David E. Prince, assistant professor of Christian preaching and pastor of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky, will read Scripture Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. following the opening worship and call to order.

Southern Seminary will host a booth, which opens Monday, June 13 at 8 a.m., where volunteers will distribute the spring edition of Southern Seminary Magazine and the More Faithful Service book from SBTS Press. Southern Seminary and Boyce College professors will be available at the booth throughout the week. Attendees may sign up at the SBTS booth for three giveaways during the week, including a scholarship, a “Pastor’s Study Pack” containing books and library materials, and an “Events Pack” containing tickets to select conferences and other events at Southern Seminary’s campus during the 2016-17 academic year.
Prior to the meeting, Southern Seminary and Boyce College students will participate in Crossover June 11, an annual evangelism outreach organized by the North American Mission Board in St. Louis before the annual meeting. Supervised by Timothy Beougher, Billy Graham Professor of Evangelism and Church Growth, students will receive class credit for attending lectures and the evangelism event.
