The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary will launch a four-day initiative in spring 2017 aimed at supporting the mission of the institution, announced R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of Southern Seminary. From April 20-23, the seminary will hold its first Giving Days, providing students, alumni, donors, and faculty the opportunity to tell their stories, support the institution financially, and serve the community of Louisville.
“I’m inviting you to be a part of Giving Days — not only to make a difference in the lives of Southern Seminary students, but to be a force for the future of the church and for the advance of the gospel around the globe,” said Mohler in a Feb. 13 video announcement.
Students and faculty will have the opportunity to share their stories on social media and donors will be able to give financially to the institution on Thursday, April 20, and Friday, April 21. Numerous donors have already committed to serve as matching donors during Giving Days.
Members of the SBTS community will also have the opportunity to serve in Louisville and around the world during the weekend. The 1937 Project on Saturday, April 22, will allow students and faculty to volunteer for service projects around Louisville. As many as 450 volunteers are expected to serve in up to 25 projects throughout the city, according to Tyler Clark, Student Life Coordinator at Southern Seminary. Preach the Word on Sunday, April 23, will operate in conjunction with the Southern Baptist Convention’s Seminary Sunday in churches across the country.
“Giving Days provides every person associated with Southern the opportunity to partner together to give of our time, service, influence, or finances to support the mission of the seminary,” said Craig Parker, vice president of Institutional Advancement at Southern Seminary.
