For more than a decade, Southern Seminary has prepared the church to engage Islam faithfully, grounded in Scripture, driven by the gospel, and shaped by a genuine love for Muslim people.
Three Ways to Pursue Islamic Studies at Southern Seminary
Graduate Certificates
The Graduate and Advanced Graduate Certificate in Islamic Studies is designed for students interested in reaching Muslims or serving as missionaries in primarily Islamic contexts. Islamic studies at Southern Seminary will equip students, pastors, and missionaries with an awareness of the Muslim world in its diversity.
Master of Divinity
The Master of Divinity is Southern’s flagship ministry degree, offering a comprehensive core of Bible, theology, and pastoral training. Students preparing to reach Muslims can focus that training on Islam through electives and graduate certificates in Islamic Studies, World Religions, and Missions.
PhD in Islamic Studies
The Ph.D. in Islamic Studies is designed for scholars, pastors, and missionaries called to engage Islam at the deepest level and help lead the conversation in the church and the academy. Grounded in Scripture and rigorous in the primary sources, the program prepares you to study Islam critically without ever compromising the gospel.
Engage Muslims with Confidence
The Jenkins Center for the Christian Understanding of Islam exists to bring biblical clarity to the challenges of Islam and to equip everyday believers, pastors, and missionaries to reach Muslims with the gospel. Through resources, academic lectures, evangelism outreach, and mentoring, the Center helps you understand the Muslim world and proclaim Christ within it.
Why Study Islam at Southern Seminary
Gospel-driven and academically rigorous
You’ll engage Islam at the highest academic level, working in the primary sources, studying Arabic, and examining Islamic history, theology, and contemporary movements, all connected to the authority of Scripture. The goal is to prepare you to proclaim Christ among Muslims with clarity and conviction.
Trusted, Expert Faculty
Dr. Ayman Ibrahim leads Southern’s Islamic Studies programs and the Jenkins Center. Born and raised in Egypt, holding two PhDs in Islamic Studies and decades of ministry across the Muslim world, he pairs world-class scholarship with a pastor’s heart for reaching Muslims with the gospel.
Hands-On Training
Studying Islam at Southern reaches well beyond the classroom. Students regularly carry what they learn into their own neighborhoods and to Muslim communities around the world, sharing the gospel face-to-face. Every bit of understanding serves a greater aim: reaching Muslims with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
